Michele N. Shepard, PhD, MS, CIH
Vice President, EHS Management and Auditing
Michele Noble Shepard brings over 20 years of environmental health and safety (EHS) experience in consulting, industry and academic research. Her areas of expertise include EHS management systems, health and safety compliance and risk management programs, hazard and exposure assessments, auditing, training, and emergency preparedness and response planning.
Dr. Shepard holds a doctor of philosophy in nanobioscience from the University at Albany College of Nanoscale Sciences and Engineering (now SUNY Polytechnic Institute). As an EPA STAR Fellow, she investigated occupational exposures and risk management practices for engineered nanoparticles used in the semiconductor industry. She also earned a master of science in an interdisciplinary environmental studies program from the University of Oregon and a bachelor of science from Clarkson University in industrial hygiene and environmental toxicology. Dr. Shepard is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and the President-Elect of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Eastern Upstate New York section. She served as a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 229 Nanotechnologies, Working Group 3 Health, Safety and Environmental Aspects of Nanotechnologies, and is the Past Chair of the AIHA Nanotechnology Working Group.
Michele began her career as a health and safety consultant at Arthur D. Little. She also worked in industry as the EHS lead for a global business division of a Fortune 200 corporation, and directed EHS for a biotechnology subsidiary with two genomics research and development facilities. In her previous consulting endeavors she led the firm's health and safety consulting practice.
