
Colden Corporation is pleased to welcome senior consultant Michele N. Shepard, PhD, MS, CIH, to our Albany office. Dr. Shepard brings to Colden over 20 years of environmental health and safety (EHS) experience in consulting, industry and academic research. Her areas of expertise include EHS management systems, health and safety compliance programs, hazard and exposure assessments, auditing, training, and emergency preparedness and response planning. She has worked with clients in a variety of industries and operations including manufacturing and research & development sites in the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals, consumer products, aerospace, semiconductors and other sectors; over two dozen colleges and universities; over thirty local, regional or state public health, water, or wastewater utilities; and numerous Federal government laboratories and other sites.
Dr. Shepard received a doctor of philosophy in nanobioscience from SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, which is now SUNY Polytechnic Institute). She was awarded an EPA STAR Fellowship to investigate potential occupational exposures and risk management of engineered nanoparticles used in the semiconductor industry. She also earned a master of science in an interdisciplinary environmental studies program from the University of Oregon, with concentrations in management, policy, and environmental science, and a bachelor of science from Clarkson University in industrial hygiene and environmental toxicology. Dr. Shepard is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and is currently the Vice Chair of the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s Nanotechnology Working Group.
