Colden will be exhibiting and presenting at the AIHA Connect 2025 conference at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, MO, beginning on Monday, May 19th and concluding on Wednesday, May 21st.
Chrysoula Komis PhD, CIH, CSP, CHMM, CPEA, FAIHA and Greg Richey, MS, CIH, CSP, FAIHA will present “EPA’s Intervention Into Workplace Health and Safety — A Paradigm Shift” on Tuesday, May 20th at 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM CDT. This presentation will discuss new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations for workplace chemical exposures under the 2016 Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act, which introduced significant updates to the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). One aspect of the new EPA regulations has been existing chemical exposure limits (ECELs) to reduce workplace exposures by orders of magnitude, such as compared to the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits for asbestos and methylene chloride. With these new lower EPA exposure limits, there will be a need for new controls, more hazard assessments, new sampling and analytical methods, more recordkeeping and documentation, and resource impacts. Colden’s presenters will highlight the challenges current EPA activities may pose and need for companies to adjust, with continuing need for professional organization and IH/OEHS professionals’ involvement to avoid conflicting standards or burdensome recordkeeping.
Awadh Kulkarni, MS, CIH will co-present “Addressing Methylene Chloride Use in Research — TSCA, OSHA, and the Lab Environment” on Tuesday, May 20th at 11:15 AM – 12:15 AM CDT. This presentation will discuss laboratory impacts from the EPA final risk management rule for methylene chloride under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). This session will provide perspectives from members of the AIHA Laboratory Health and Safety Committee for compliance with this new rule.
Michele Shepard, PhD, MS, CIH will present “Ultrafine Particles – An Overview for Industrial Hygiene Practitioners” on Tuesday, May 20th from 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM CDT with Keith Rickabaugh, CIH of RJ Lee Group, as part of pop-up education session 9. This presentation will cover basic properties of ultrafine particles and their hazards, growing applications and exposure sources, and industrial hygiene assessment frameworks ranging from basic surveys to more comprehensive sampling and advanced analytical techniques.
Chrisy Walsh, MS, CIH, CSP will present “Enhancing Ergonomic Practices to Fit the Job to the Worker” on Tuesday, May 20th at 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM CDT. This session will address the importance of effective ergonomic practices in today’s dynamic work environments, emphasizing their critical role in creating safer and more productive workplaces. The presentation will use case studies and hands-on activities to cover job task design and adaptation for worker well-being and how to identify common ergonomic risk factors and overcome challenges by applying foundational ergonomic principles and risk mitigation strategies.
Chrisy Walsh, MS, CIH, CSP will also present “Bridging Compliance and Practical Application in Managing Heat Stress Risks” on Wednesday, May 21st at 9:15 AM – 10:15 AM CDT. This presentation will cover global heat stress risks associated with climate change, key risk factors, heat stress assessments using Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) and Heat Index tools, and controls measures such as work-rest schedules, acclimatization, hydration strategies, and other program insights.
For those attending the event, we hope to see you at our sessions. Please stop by Colden’s booth #1220.
