Michele N. Shepard,

Michele (Noble) Shepard has 25 years of environmental health and safety (EHS) experience in consulting, industry and academic research. Her areas of expertise include EHS management systems, health and safety compliance and risk management programs, hazard and exposure assessments, emergency preparedness and response planning, and EHS auditing.
Dr. Shepard holds a doctor of philosophy in nanobioscience from the University at Albany College of Nanoscale Sciences and Engineering (now SUNY Polytechnic Institute). She also earned a master of science in environmental studies from the University of Oregon and a bachelor of science from Clarkson University in industrial hygiene and environmental toxicology. She received an EPA STAR Fellowship for research on potential exposures and risk assessment methods for engineered nanoparticles used in the semiconductor industry.
Dr. Shepard is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and an active member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and Eastern Upstate New York local section. She is also a member of the AIHA Nanotechnology Working Group and Executive Committee. She previously served as the AIHA Nanotechnology Working Group Chair and in other officer roles, and as a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 229 Nanotechnologies, Working Group 3 Health, Safety and Environmental Aspects of Nanotechnologies.
Michele began her career as a health and safety consultant at Arthur D. Little. She also worked in industry as the EHS lead for a global division of a Fortune 200 corporation and for a biotechnology subsidiary with two genomics research and development facilities.
