Senior Scientist

Chrysoula Komis has over 47 years of occupational health and safety experience working with chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, energy, food industry, laboratories, foundries, and heavy and light manufacturing clients. Her lengthy 30 year tenure with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a compliance officer, health supervisor, regional industrial hygienist, and Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) manager provides an invaluable perspective in helping clients manage regulatory hurdles.

As a consultant with Colden, Chrysoula’s specialties include providing litigation support and expert testimony, industrial hygiene assessments, OSHA compliance reviews, guidance on VPP, hazard assessments, biosafety, laboratory safety, safety and health auditing, chemical hazard information, training, and OSHA recordkeeping reviews.

Chrysoula was the Occupational Health and Safety Manager for the Agricultural Research Service Laboratories-North Atlantic Region. She was responsible for planning, organizing, directing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive safety and health program for 13 laboratories in the North Atlantic Area including the nation’s premier biosafety laboratory at Plum Island in Greenport, New York.

She holds a Doctorate in Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology and a Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene from Drexel University. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Biology from Marist College. Chrysoula is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, a Certified Safety Professional, a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor, and was a Registered Biosafety Professional (retired). She was an adjunct professor for 23 years at Temple University in the Departments of Public Health and Civil and Environmental Engineering and served as an Adjunct Professor in the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University.

Chrysoula has been an active member of both the National and Philadelphia Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) since 1977. She has served several terms as a member of local chapter’s Board of Directors and has held elected offices including that of Chapter President in 2021. She was elected a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association in 2015. Chrysoula is also a member of the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA International), the Mid-Atlantic Biosafety Association, and Mid-Atlantic Construction Safety Council.
