Michele (Noble) Shepard has over 30 years of environmental health and safety (EHS) experience in consulting, industry, and academic research. Michele is a Principal owner of Colden and serves as a Senior Scientist and Vice President, EHS Services. She specializes in EHS management systems, hazard and exposure assessments, occupational health and safety compliance and risk management programs, emergency preparedness planning, and EHS auditing.
Dr. Shepard has a doctorate degree in Nanobioscience from the University at Albany College of Nanoscale Sciences and Engineering. She also earned a Master of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Toxicology from Clarkson University. She was awarded a U.S. EPA STAR Fellowship for doctoral research on engineered nanoparticle exposure and risk assessment methods and application in the semiconductor industry.
Dr. Shepard is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and active member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and AIHA Eastern Upstate New York (EUNY) local section. She previously served as President of the AIHA EUNY local section (2017), as Chair of the AIHA Nanotechnology Working Group (2015-2016) and in other officer roles (2012-2017), and as an AIHA representative on the ANSI U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 229, Working Group 3 Health, Safety and Environmental Aspects of Nanotechnologies (2014-2015). Michele currently participates on the ultrafine particles project team supporting AIHA’s changing work dynamics content priority.
Michele began her career as a Health and Safety Consultant at Arthur D. Little, with other former roles including EHS lead for a Fortune 200 company global division and corporate safety committee representative, and EHS manager for a biotechnology subsidiary with two genomics research and development facilities. Michele is based in Colden’s Albany, New York area office.
